The press conference that was supposed to be held at the David Copperfield Theatre in Las Vegas on Wednesday to promote the rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz at UFC 202 on Sunday went awry after McGregor turned in late.

The situation that followed left UFC president Dana White red faced, who was forced to call off the presser.

McGregor reportedly arrived 30 minutes late at the party which left Diaz along with the other co-headliners Glover Teixeira and Anthony Johnson on the stage for most of the time. When McGregor finally turned up, Diaz appeared to be telling his brother to get off the stage, possibly as a result of McGregor’s late coming.

McGregor (19-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) and Diaz (19-10 MMA, 14-8 UFC) will go in for a rematch at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena in the main event of UFC 202 at the early hours of Sunday morning on a pay-per-view. Diaz defeated McGregor in the second round of UFC 196, the MMA Junkie.

While storming out of the Theatre, Diaz gave McGregor the middle finger and said, “F**k your whole team! How about that?” McGregor is not someone to take it lying down and responded saying, “F**k your whole team. Little crackhead e***s. You’ll do nothing, you’ll do nothing.”

Diaz grabbed a water bottle and hurled it at McGregor on the stage. McGregor returned the favour and then picked up cans of Monster Energy Drink and water bottles, which flew past the head of media at Diaz and his team.

The Daily Star reported that the situation left White livid and was forced to dismiss the press conference for the day. “That’s a wrap, get him out of here,” he said before wrapping up the event. The unpredictable situation that erupted between the two fighters and caused a much-publicised brawl prior to the highly anticipated face-off would have its repercussions for both McGregor and Diaz.
