Tyra Banks has finally and officially become a mom. The America’s Next Top Model judge posted on Instagram a snapshot of her baby’s clothes with a heart-warming caption. Having experienced fertility issues, the supermodel reveals her deep gratitude to a surrogate.

Last Wednesday, one of the fashion industry’s most influential women took to Instagram and posted a photo of a child’s clothes, reports ET Online.

The 42-year old and her boyfriend, Erik Asla, had been struggling to get pregnant, and finally, their prayers were answered.

According to E! Online, Banks had been open about her struggles in getting pregnant before. She stated during an interview with FABLife, “I want to co-sign what Chrissy is saying and say ‘You have no idea what people are going through.’ Why am I crying? You just have no idea what people are going through, so when you ask Chrissy [why don’t you have kids] or me that or anybody that, it is none of your frigging business, okay?”

She went on and said, “And for any women, it is none of your business what somebody is going through. Whether they want to have a child or don’t ever want to have a child or may have a child on the way, it’s none of your business, okay? Until somebody wants to make it your business.”

After the interview, it was revealed that she was undergoing IVF treatments that time and wanted to relay the message that women should support each other during rough times.

The model released an exclusive statement to People and said, “As I gaze into the beautiful eyes of my son, I think about all the people who struggle with fertility or carrying a child and continue to pray for them every day My hopes and dreams are filled with well wishes that they get to feel what my little treasure, York Banks Asla, feels like in my arms.”

Banks got pregnant with the help of surrogate – a method used by women who have difficulty getting pregnant. It was revealed that a woman carried her child as a surrogate. She was tremendously grateful to the person and said, “as we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby for us, we pray for everyone who struggles to reach this joyous milestone. York Banks Asla, welcome to the world.”

As reported by WebMD, a surrogate has two types of mothers: traditional and gestational.

The traditional surrogate follows the artificial insemination that initially made this process successful for those who struggle at getting pregnant. The process would include the insertion of sperm cell into the surrogate’s womb, and the latter is the biological mother of the baby since it was her egg that was fertilized.

The gestational surrogate is what Tyra Banks and her boyfriend used. Through in Vitro Fertilization (IVF), the biological mother’s egg is not that of the woman that carries the baby. Although the child is born by a surrogate, the eggs and sperms used for fertilization came from Banks and Asla themselves.

Thanks to a surrogate, Tyra Banks is now a mother. Accordingly, let’s all wish that her experience could mark a new hope for wannabe mothers out there struggling to have a child. Congrats, Tyra!
