Toronto Raptors Sign Anthony Bennett In One-Year Deal

Anthony Bennett was desperately seeking a buy-out from his side Minnesota Timberwolves. Upon receiving it, Bennett signed a one-year deal with the Toronto Raptors. Bennett, a native of Toronto, now returns home to prove his mettle in the coming edition of the NBA.


Bennett underwent a physical on Sunday morning. Earlier, Bennett expressed his strong desire to return to his Toronto roots to get more playing minutes.

Minnesota Timberwolves reached an buyout agreement with Bennett’s agent on Friday.

The Raptors were the front-runners to sign the tall forward. The 25-year-old now returns home with fresh opportunity and comfort to shrug off the label that he was a “disappointment” after being drafted as No 1 overall pick in 2013 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Bennett was acquired by the Timberwolves in the Kevin Love trade with the Cavs.  The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 5.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in 57 games for the Timberwolves last season. Bennett also posted a decent performance featuring for team Canada in FIBA America Championship last month, which sparked interests of many teams.
