29 former German soldiers traveled to Iraq and Syria to join extremist groups. Moreover, 22 soldiers have been classified as Islamists since 2007. German military counterintelligence service (MAD) also said that the 22 soldiers are no longer with the military, as they have either been dismissed or reached the end of their service.
