Bangladeshi LGBT editor hacked to death was a U.S. Embassy worker. Xulhaz Mannan, 35, was killed by five to six assailants who charged into his apartment when they pretended to be couriers. He is the editor of Rupban, the first magazine for the LGBT community in Bangladesh.


According to a report from Reuters, he was also a gay rights activist who worked for the U.S. embassy. Following his death, State Department spokesman John Kirby called Mannan’s murder a “barbaric attack.” Moreover, Kirby also said Mannan was “a beloved member of our embassy family and a courageous advocate for LGBTI rights – human rights, actually.”
