A toddler lost an eyeball due to a drone accident. The British toddler never knew it was coming. A neighbor’s drone sliced his right eyeball, which forced the doctors to remove it.
The incident happened in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire. The toddler, Oscar Webb, just 16 months old, was playing in front of his home when the drone hit him. The next-door neighbor, pilot Simon Evans, was playing with the drone. It hit a tree, went out of control and then hit the toddler.
The toddler lost the eyeball seven weeks ago. Evans, who was flying the plane, said, “As I brought it back down to land, it just clipped the tree and span round. The next thing I know I’ve just heard my friend shriek and say, ‘Oh God no’ and I turned around and just saw blood and his baby on the floor crying.”
The tiny boy had to be rushed to the hospital where he went through multiple surgeries. The doctors decided that the eyeball had to be removed. He can see with his left eye properly. However, there has to be more surgeries done before his eye can be fitted with a prosthetic eyeball.
The accident is one the worst accidents with a consumer drone. Another accident took place in 2013. It was an RC helicopter a Brooklyn man was flying. It struck him and cut off the top of his head.
Webb’s doctor mentioned that he has never anything like this before. Simon Evans, who was flying the drone that made the toddler lose the eyeball, is in shock. He says he feels sick when he looks at the drone in the garage.
