According to the Colorado State Patrol, the family had been traveling northbound on Las Animas Count Road 32 when it failed to yield to an oncoming Amtrak Train. As a result, the train collided with the right side of the Chrysler.
Following the impact, the family’s vehicle ended up getting pushed westbound on the railroad tracks until the train came to a halt. Colorado State Patrol said the driver and four of the passengers died as a result of the crash. Meanwhile, Heidi was airlifted to the Children’s Hospital in Aurora. She was said to have sustained serious injuries.
According to a report from CBS Denver, Heidi’s relatives are with her at the moment. Pastor Cary Nelson from the 1st Christian Church of Trinidad, who was in a Bible Study with Heidi’s father, told CBS, “She is awake and asking for her mother.”
For the moment, a Go Fund Me page has been set up to help pay for Heidi’s Flight for Life and hospital bills as well as her family’s funeral costs. It is hoped that as much as $50,000 will be raised. So far, as much as $34,768 has been raised in a span of one day. Meanwhile, a Facebook community page has been set up to keep everyone informed of the Miller Family funeral details.
