The View: Rosie Perez To Exit Show, Says ‘It’s Time To Go’
Rosie Perez has confirmed reports of her departure from “The View.”
While she did not say anything as to why she was quitting, she said, “It’s time to go.” She expressed gratitude to the staff of “The View,” “the fans,” and the “Latin community” while referring to herself as “the first Latina on The View – what the hell took you so long?” as reported by Yahoo News.
“I do not have one regret for coming to this show,” she said. Her short run at “The View” was unable to pull the show out of creative-content problems and sluggish ratings. However, she did receive a standing ovation from the audience.
“Well you guys all heard it, I’ve decided that it’s time to move on,” she said, teary-eyed.
“Today is very bittersweet for me. I’m excited for what is to come, but I’m so sad to leave ‘The View,’ the staff, the producers, ABC, and especially these two ladies,” referring to the hosts Nicolle Wallace and Whoopi Goldberg.
“I want to thank you for your friendship Nicole. Whoopi I want to thank you for everything; your guidance, professionalism. You are truly the captain of the ship.”
Perez said she was also thankful to a lot of people, including Karen, her makeup artist, “for making me look beautiful every morning, which is kind of hard.”
“I especially want to thank Bill Wolff,” she said of the show’s executive producer.
Collins’ humor has been impressive on the show, one which she has appeared on numerous times. According to Deadline, she has also featured on Chelsea Lately, Today show, The Wendy Williams Showand Tyra Banks Show.
Michelle Collins, Raven-Symone and Goldberg will be among the five co-hosts to appear on the show next season. While Wallace joined the line-up this season on a one-year contract, she is in talks regarding her future on the show.
Perez’s departure follows Rosie O’Donnell’s who left the show for the second time this February (she first left “The View” in 2007 after co-hosting it for one season). Jenny McCarthy left the show in 2014, also lasting just one season. That year also saw the departure of Sherri Shepherd, who had been with the show since 2007.
Perez assured the audience that she will remain for the remainder of the season “until Aug. 6 because I like to finish things I started.”
To this, Goldberg added, “Calm down she’s not leaving today. We got weeks and weeks of this show baby.”
According to The Wrap, Collins and Symone are now among the panelists on the show. Molly Sims is also rumored to join as a contributor in season 19.
