Will ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8 be Cancelled? Up until now there is no clear answer but rumors have it that Nina Dobrev can reluctant to be Elena now. Is this because she knows this means she and Ian Somerhalder will have to work together?
This, after CW president Mark Pedowitz announced that there has been “no determination” yet on whether the critically-acclaimed series has received the green light, Deadline reported.
“In my dreams it isn’t, but we will see how the audience will react,” Pedowitz said, as he also revealed that network officials have not yet determined the exact size of the show’s eighth season.
The studio executive added that discussions on such production details will be done in the next few weeks, which should give the show’s followers hope that the bloodsucking will continue for another season.
In the meantime, fans who are expecting to see the comeback of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) in the finale of “The Vampire Diaries” season 7 and possibly season 8, might be a bit disappointed.
According to TV Guide, Dobrev had recorded dialogue for the show’s finale where one could hear Elena’s voice as she pleads for Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) help, saying “I’m so alone. I need you.”
However, it turned out that the voice Damon heard wasn’t Elena’s but was actually coming from a creature that was imitating Elena’s voice, as it tried to lure Damon into a trap within the Armory’s vault.
Despite Dobrev’s “mini” cameo, there is still no assurance that she’ll be making a return on the show, said executive producer Brian Young, who explained that Elena can only return once Bonnie (Kat Graham) dies.
This development should bring comfort to Nikki Reed who is now married to Somerhalder, and pain to Dobrev if Somerhalder still has a soft spot in her heart.
In an earlier article by the International Business Times, Dobrev, Somerhalder’s ex-girlfriend, revealed that she was open to the possibility of returning to the show to wrap up Elena’s story.
There were speculations that Reed was uncomfortable with Somerhalder and Dobrev’s friendship, and was relieved when Dobrev finally left the show.
But in a recent Instagram post, Somerhalder quashed all rumors linking him to Dobrev, he openly expressed his love for his wife by re-posting an Instagram photo of the couple taken by their good friend Oliver Trevena.
Somerhalder captioned his photo: “To the most magical human, never has there ever been one like you… I love you infinitely. I’m the lucky one. Happy 28th Birthday – Love, Your Husband.”
“The Vampire Diaries” season 8 is expected to premiere on The CW sometime this year.
