What's This?

Things do not seem to be working in favor of the people who have pre-ordered a unit of the Oculus Rift. A limited number of Oculus Rifts are all set to hit the retail market as it goes on sale in Best Buy, Amazon and Microsoft.

According to The Verge, the direct-buy option put forward by the creators of the Oculus Rift has left all the pre-order customers in a bit of a pickle. Since they have already pre-ordered a unit of the VR headset, they would be torn between wanting to wait out the time period before such a unit is made available to them and going out and buying one for themselves from the nearest Best Buy. In case the pre-order customers decide to opt for the latter, they can and all they have to do is get in contact with the team of Oculus to get their pre-order cancelled.

Oculus has assured that no pre-order customers will lose their attendant benefits, which includes receiving a free copy of space shooter EVE: Valkyrie and keeping their place intact in line for the Touch motion controllers that Oculus would be launching next.

As an experiment to see how people response to Oculus rifts being sold in brick-and-mortar stores, reports, Digital Trends, only a few number of the units will go on sale on 7th May 2016 in 48 branches of Best Buy. People who are fond of order online will also get an opportunity to get their hands on the Oculus Rift for an “extremely limited” number of units will also be made available on Amazon and Microsoft’s own website.

Perhaps one of the greatest advantages that buying the Oculus Rift from Best Buy is the fact that one would get the unique chance to test out the headset and assessing if it’s worth dishing out $600 for the product or not.
