After years of dating, speculation and Amy’s frustration, the couple (played by Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik), will have sex, executive producer, Steve Molaro, said in a statement. “And we’re so excited for the audience to see the journey over the next several episodes,” Molaro said.

The eighth season of the hit show ended with Amy expressing her need for some “time,” not knowing that Sheldon had an engagement ring and was going to propose to her. As reported by the Los Angeles Times, Bialik said that in her on screen relationship, “anything can happen.”

“People want to jump to all sorts of conclusions,” she said. “Because it’s super-exciting to do so and they love these characters and they know them. But the neat thing about our show … and Jim and my character’s relationship is that anything can happen.”

The ninth season premieres with Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) getting married. Howard (Simon Helberg) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) got married in the finale of season five. Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar), whose inability to talk to women without the help of alcohol was overcome in the season six finale, is in a long-term relationship with Emily (Laura Spencer).

It is not for certain whether season 10, announced previously, will be the hit sitcom’s last. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Molaro said it is “way too soon” to discuss about it. “We’re just focusing on finishing up season eight strong and coming back hard out of the gate for season nine. I can’t think that far ahead,” he said in April.
