What's This?

“Teen Wolf” and “Arrow” star Colton Haynes came out as gay and the Internet is abuzz with what this means for him. Now that he is out of the closet, will his anxiety lessen and allow him to return to TV — for “Teen Wolf” Season 6?

While coming out these days is not associated with losing one’s career these days, Haynes did always say he struggled with internal anxiety for a long time. Being in the closet probably aggravated his anxiety.

Haynes revealed to Entertainment Weekly that his anxiety, something he opened up to earlier this year, is linked with hiding in the closet and acting untrue to himself. “People want you to be that GQ image that you put out, but people don’t realize what it’s like to act 24 hours a day. I’d go home and I was still acting,” he explained.

He added that pretending to be someone he is not 24 hours is really tiring. He slammed gay haters for being unaware of how difficult this could be. “People who are so judgmental about those who are gay or different don’t realize that acting 24 hours a day is the most exhausting thing in the world,” he said.

He also regretted not coming out sooner, especially after someone posted about his “secret gay past,” and he chose not to directly come out then. “It was a complete shock. I wasn’t ready to be back in the headlines,” Haynes’ said. “I should have made a comment or a statement, but I just wasn’t ready. I didn’t feel like I owed anyone anything,” the actor added.

“I think in due time, everyone has to make those decisions when they’re ready, and I wasn’t yet,” he explained.

Last year, Haynes took to Twitter a latest study about anxiety entitled “Mitochondrial Function in the Brain Links Anxiety with Social Subordination,” and explained his own condition, as reported by Mail Online UK. He said his anxiety is debilitating. “‘Anxiety had put me in the hospital a countless amount of times. Whether it be fainting, hyperventilating, or seizures…I’ve been through it.” The “Arrow” actor went on and stated, “Anxiety has caused me to be extremely agoraphobic & livin in constant fear of leavin my house at times. Ur not alone. [sic],” he wrote.

Entertainment Weekly added that the actor has already been undergoing rehab and going to the hospital for the past three months. Last year, he left “Arrow” after three seasons.

It is too early to know if he can return as Jackson Whittemore on “Teen Wolf.” There were strong speculations (and clamour!) that he would return for Season 5 but that did not happen, as reported by Bustle. Maybe Season 6 is the right time.

“Teen Wolf” Season 5 ended with the episode entitled “Apotheosis.” “Teen Wolf” Season 6 Episode 1 is said to be entitled “Memory Lost” as reported by Spoiler TV. When it will premiere though is still unknown.
