Team USA Olympics 2016: Players Not Serious For Rio?
It looks like Team USA is having way too much fun on court, so much so that their coach is asking them to tone things down.Advertisement
The men of Team USA basketball team are currently not having much of a challenge. They had completed their first three exhibition games, all victories achieved with a huge margin. In one game, USA easily beat China with a final score of 107 – 57. That is the time their Coach Mike Krzyzewski told his players they need to “tone that down a little.”
During a game against China, it seemed DeMar DeRozan was having the time of his life. To make the crowd go wild, he even attempted a 360-degree dunk. Though the effort he showed was amazing, the ball didn’t go in.
Nonetheless, it was enough to drive Kevin Durant crazy. He got off the bench onto the floor, getting a technical foul in the process. With huge points gain against China, though, it didn’t matter at all.
Meanwhile, DeRozen’s fantastic attempt was not lost on LeBron James, who remarked, “Man if @DeMar_DeRozan would have made that dunk, would have been top 5 All Time!
Team USA may have been winning easily lately, but that doesn’t mean they have a string of guaranteed victories in the near future. According to a report from SB Nation, China’s best player has not been seen on the court yet. You can count on China to score better when their player Yi Jianlian comes on court to join them.
As of the moment, Team USA is preparing to take on Venezuela during an exhibition game at the United Center in Chicago. No one in the team is more ready to show what he’s got than Jimmy Butler, who is just happy to be back home.
“Going home to Chicago. Going to show these guys around my city. I guess dinner’s on me,” said the five-year Chicago Bulls member.
After playing against Venezuela, Team USA will be playing another exhibition game against Nigeria at the Toyota Center in Houston. After that, it’s off to Rio de Janeiro for the Olympics 2016. You can check out their complete exhibition game schedule here.
As the date gets closer for Rio, Coach Krzyzewski admitted he is most concerned about the fouls.
“We’re constantly yelling out team fouls. That’s because the fifth foul is two free throws,” he explained.
Team USA may have scored easy victories in the last three games, but it must be noted that the team managed to draw 61 fouls, which ended up sending them to the line 58 times.
