What's This?

Gregg Popovich is the unanimous first choice to take charge as head coach of the USA national basketball team, according to a person close to the coaching business.

Popovich earlier has promised superstar LaMarcus Aldridge that he would continue to coach at San Antonio Spurs till the end of his contract in 2018-19.

What could be viewed as a conflict of interest is Popovich’s access to free agent stars every summer in the role of coach. Currently, the NBA coaches look forward to see one of their own members in the post of the USA National team’s coach.

Mike Krzyzewski, the present coach of the USA men’s basketball team and 2016 Rio Olympics, could find himself in his last tournament at the post.

Krzyzewski and Jerry Colangelo have immense contribution in building the USA team. They have succeeded in giving NBA a much needed access to the global market to sell its products and players across the planet. And they have also tasted blood by winning two Olympic gold medals.

Popovich, on the other hand, has a stunning record of clinching the NBA title five times with San Antonio Spurs. “There really is no second place,” confirmed another source. Popovich is currently considered as the most accomplished coach in the NBA circuit.
