Taylor Swift Award by BMI is given to none other than Taylor Swift herself. She joked that she is the only person who should get the award.
The Taylor Swift Award given by the 64th BMI Pop Awards is given to the “Bad Blood” star as recognition of her influence on her talent in music, Entertainment Weekly said.
According to BMI Vice President of Writer/Publisher Relations Barbara Cane, the Award was given by BMI for her impact on everyone not only though her good music and respect on the industry. She said Swift has imparted a standard of values to her fans as well.
“Taylor Swift has transformed pop culture through her songs, artistry and indomitable spirit,” she said. “We felt it appropriate to award Taylor with an honor that is as unique and special as she is.”
“I’m really super relieved that BMI decided to give me the Taylor Swift award, because if they had chose somebody else to give the Taylor Swift award to I’d be like kind of bummed about it,” the 26-year-old singer joked in her acceptance speech.
BMI Pop Awards also gave the singer the Pop Songwriter of the Year title. Swift joins Michael Jackson as one of the recipients of an award given after their respective names.
Meanwhile, a fan of the singer was caught and arrested for lurking outside her New York apartment, as reported by Yahoo News. Lucas Vorsteveld, 25, was ringing Swift’s buzzer when he was detained by the singer’s ecurity until police officers can arrive and take over.
Vorsteveld already faced trespassing charges in 2013, after police caught him walking on a private road leading to Swift’s Rhode Island home. It was quite suspicious since it took place at 2:15 in the morning.
