“Supergirl” is flying from CBS to CW, following its DC counterpart “The Flash.” As CW gears up for “Supergirl” season 2, Melissa Benoist, who plays the lead character on the show, cannot contain her excitement over the network shift.
‘Supergirl’ Season 2
“Supergirl” did not manage to build as big a fan base as other DC shows such as “Arrow,” “The Flash,” and “Legends of Tomorrow.” Hence, it did not come as a shock to many when CBS decided to cancel its second season. The main reason cited for such a step was budget cuts, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
However, CW could not let the golden opportunity pass. The network grabbed the rights for a second installment immediately after CBS dropped it from its network. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, actress Melissa Benoist expressed her excitement at the opportunity to work for CW.
‘Supergirl’ Season 2 on CW
“I think it’s really fitting. It’s the logical fit for us. It’s a really great group to be involved with … What I’m most excited about is we get to kind of linger a little more on certain storylines from the comic books that maybe we didn’t get to do last season. Spread out storylines, which I’m really excited about,” she said.
This is great news for DC comics fans! Instead of focusing solely on stories that were deemed entertaining by CBS’ standards, “Supergirl” season 2 will now be able to include plots straight out of the comic books themselves. The show has also been given the freedom to put together crossover episodes with other DC shows like never before.
“I think she will be visiting, or being visited by many people”, chirped Melissa in an interview with TVLine.
It surely seems like “Supergirl” is flying to some exciting times ahead in season 2.
