As Lucasfilm officially announced last year, 40 year old Phil Lord and Chris Miller are getting ready to be in the director’s chair for the Star Wars Story movie that will follow the character of Han Solo. On Tuesday, Disney made an equally exciting announcement.
Chewbacca will appear in the Han Solo standalone film. “We have others in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewy.” “And that’ll come after ‘Star Wars 8’ in 2018. And then there’ll be possibly be more thereafter,” Bob Iger, CEO of Disney said as reported by The Wrap. The announcement was made at the Deutsche Bank‘s 24th Annual Media, Internet and Telecom Conference.
What’s not confirmed though is whether Finnish basketball player and actor Joonas Suotamo of The Force Awakens will reprise the Chewbacca character for the new motion picture. According to Coming Soon, there is actually a line up of choices as to who’s going to play the role. Candidates are Emory Cohen, Scott Eastwood, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Blake Jenner, Logan Lerman, Jack Reynor and Miles Teller.
The Han Solo film’s screenplay is written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan. The movie’s plot centers in the life of young Han Solo who was embroiled in too many mischief. Luke Skywalker and the legendary Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi will encounter him and the rest so as they say is “history.”
The Han Solo movie is slated to fire up theaters on May 25, 2018.
