Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, who play Rey and Finn, respectively, are some of the new characters featured in the trailer.
Also in the cast are Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie.
The release of the new Star Wars movie trailer received a massive response on Twitter.
"There's a new Star Wars trailer! EVERYBODY SHUT UP THERE'S A NEW STAR WARS TRAILER!" – me being professional on set today
The trailer shows a bloody mark on Finn’s stormtrooper helmet, and although scores of limbs have been severed throughout the series – including the iconic scene from “Phantom Menace” where Darth Maul pierces his lightsaber into Qui-Gon Jim – blood has hardly been witnessed, according to Business Insider.
During the event, the actors gave an insight into their characters, with Daisy saying that “Rey on the desert planet – she is self-sufficient until she meets another character.” Boyega, too, spoke of his character, saying, “so we find Finn and he is in incredible danger. He changes his life in an incredibly unique way.”
Abrams discussed using practical sets in the movie and talked about filming in Abu Dhabi and using puppets for droids like BB8.
“Star Wars is as much a Western and a fairy tale as anything else, and one of the things you expect and want to see are real, tangible, John Ford landscapes,” he said, according to Wired.
The movie is scheduled to release on December 18, 2015.
