Star Wars Episode 8 is slated to release around the end of next year, but speculations on Rey’s lineage have already started doing the rounds.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended with Rey finally finding Luke Skywalker, who went into a self-imposed exile. And as rumors have it, the space junk scavenger could actually be related to Luke Skywalker.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens left a number of traces that clearly suggested Rey to be Luke’s long lost daughter. According to a report by Quora, Luke means “light” and Rey, which pronounces as “ray” also uncannily has the same meaning.
Yuga Tech reported that a painting of Rey done by Rodel Gonzalez, the only Filipino licensed by Disney & Lucas Films, was captioned Rey Skywalker. The credibility of the artist bolstered up the speculations over Rey’s links to Luke.
Luke’s lightsaber was more responsive to Rey than it was to Ben Solo, Anakin descendant, and a trained Force user. The lightsaber never belonged to Ben Solo’s mother princess Leia.
The most probable explanation to R2-D2’s awakening at the end of The Force Awakens could be Rey’s arrival at the Resistance base. It was as if R2-D2 was waiting for her and then reactivated itself to guide her to Luke.
According to a Reddit leak, the spirit of the chosen one reincarnates whenever the universe loses its balance and that Rey is the reincarnation of Anakin Skywalker.
The Week reported that one of the leaks even suggested that the character of princess Leia would be written out early in the next Star Wars movie. The character reportedly has a very small role in Star Wars Episode 8.
“It’s unfortunately true that they’ve minimised her screen time by writing her out after an attack early on,” says Mr_Ghostface_Lives, an IMDb user, who claimed to have gone through the film’s script. “But the really cool thing about the sequence is that Leia survives only because she uses the Force.”
