Anton Yelchin, the actor who played Chekov in the “Star Trek” reboot movies, was found dead after a freak accident on early Sunday morning.
The 27-year-old actor also acted in critically acclaimed films including “Like Crazy” and “Alpha Dog.” Based on media reports, it was confirmed that the young actor died outside his home in Los Angeles.
According to law enforcement, Yelchin went out of his car in the driveway of his Studio City home at around 1:10 a.m. The moment he exited, the car skated backwards, pinning him against a brick pillar and a security fence.
The whole ordeal caused extreme trauma that led to his death, said Jennifer Houser with the Los Angeles Police Department.
Houser said that the actor was on his way to meet his friends for a rehearsal. His friends went to his house when he didn’t show up at the rehearsal. There, they found him deceased by his car, said CNN.
“It appears that he momentarily left his car, leaving it in the driveway. He was behind the vehicle when it rolled backward and pinned him to the brick pillar causing the trauma that led to his death,” Houser said.

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions produced the recent “Star Trek” features. He went to Twitter to voice his sadness about the actor’s death. He said that the actor was brilliant, kind, funny and extremely talented.
Strangely, the “Star Trek” actor is now the newest member of the Club 27 – a set of artists who passed away at the age of 27. The set includes legends like Jimi Hendrix, Jonathan Gregory Brandis, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, etc.
The singer-songwriter and frontman for the grunge band Nirvana, Cobain died of a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head, says The Wrap. Amy Winehouse, British R&B and soul singer, had been battling addiction to drugs and alcohol. She died of poisoning due to alcohol in her London home.
