There are soccer transfer rumors swirling around that Olivier Giroud is eager to play for Maurizio Sarri in Naples. Michael Manuello, Giroud’s agent, recently put a stop to the speculation.
Manuello clarified that Giroud is purely focused on improving his game with The Gunners. Even if he was available, Napoli has yet to contact Arsenal for a possible trade.
“Everything I’ve read on the Giroud is not true. I personally have only said that if Arsenal want to sell him, then we will see,” Manuello revealed to TuttoMercatoWebb with translation from ESPN. “I do not know where [the Napoli story] came from. We never talked to Naples and there are no other people appointed over me that can do this.”
Arsenal is in the market for a world-class striker to fill the offensive void left by Danny Welbeck, who is still recovering from knee surgery. Arsene Wenger was reportedly interested in Napoli forward Gonzalo Higuain, but the Argentinian international is now nearing a deal with Juventus.
For the time being, Arsenal has no choice but to hang on to Giroud. Manuello stated that fans can expect an increased role from the Frenchman next season.
“You always need two strikers, Welbeck is out for nine months unfortunately. And it’s quite normal,” he said. “If you play in a great team, it is natural that we could face strong competition.”
As for Higuain, The Telegraph reported that Juventus has already met his minimum release clause. The Turin squad is one step closer to acquiring the striker for €95 million or $104 million from Napoli, recent soccer transfer rumors suggest.
Higuain’s brother Nicolas, who also happens to be his agent, said in June that his client won’t be renewing his contract with Napoli. Despite the forewarning, the Stadio San Paolo club vehemently maintained that Higuain will still be with the team when pre-season starts on July 25, as per Goal.com.
