What's This?

Qualcomm’s “Snapdragon 820” was one of the most awaited chips. Most of the upcoming phones were waiting for this chip to get launched. Almost all of the high-end smartphones from reputed brands are going to be powered by the Snapdragon 820.

The company has formally launched Snapdragon 820 SoC, which is built on Samsung’s 2nd generation 14nm technology. Here is what Qualcomm claims about this CPU:

Snapdragon 820 chip comes with X12 LTE support, so how does that make a difference? Compared to X10 LTE, X12 LTE will allow your phone to offer 33% faster peak download speeds and three times faster peak upload speeds. When compared to Adreno 430 GPU, the smartphones powered by Snapdragon 820 will also improve compute capabilities, graphics performance and power usage by forty percent as these phones will be packed with Adreno 530.

No matter how expensive your device is, if it does not support high-speed internet or Wi-Fi, people would not give such a phone a try. Qualcomm says that Snapdragon 820 will change the way Wi-Fi works on your device. How? The chip will support both, 802.11ad and 802.11ac 2×2 MU-MIMO. This will speed up your Wi-Fi two to three times more than 802.11ac without MU-MIMO.

Almost all of phones are now focusing on powerful batteries and Quick Charge, as batteries started suffering due to advanced technology. Now, this chip will come with Quick Charge 3.0, which the company claims to be “4x faster than conventional charging and 38% more efficient than Quick Charge 2.0.”

This chip is also said to allow smartphones deliver DSLR quality pictures. At least theoretically, Snapdragon 820 seems to be one of the smartest chips designed by Qualcomm. Let’s wait for smartphones powered by this chip to hit the market to see if this mobile processor stands the test of time.
