Team Serbia will have home court advantage throughout the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade. Needless to say, the campaign won’t be a cake walk for Milos Teodosic and company, as JJ Barea and his crew look to rain on Serbia’s parade early.

Serbia will play their opening game on Monday night against the tough and feisty Puerto Rico men’s national basketball team. The European squad would then face Angola the next day to complete its Group A assignments.

Serbian team captain Milos Teodosic shared to reporters, via, that he and his teammates can’t wait to kick-start their 2016 Summer Olympics qualifying campaign. They are eager to show off their much-improved style of play under head coach Aleksandar Djordjevic.

“We could not be more motivated,” Teodosic claimed. “Maybe having just 20 days of preparations is not too much, but this is the third year we are working with coach Djordjevic so we already know well what he wants and demands from us. Our hope and our aim is to make it to Olympic Games.”

Puerto Rico Poised to Score Upset

The Serbians are the prohibitive favorites to win the Belgrade OQT. However, their mettle will be tested early, as they face Puerto Rico on Monday. The Central American team and its head coach Eddie Casiano are no strangers to playing the underdog role. The Puerto Ricans are more than capable of launching a huge upset.

The dynamic duo of JJ Barea and Carlos Arroyo will present Serbia with a host of problems. Not only that, Renaldo Balkman is an absolute pest on both sides of the floor and would likely elicit technical fouls from opponents. There’s also smooth-shooting power forward Ricky Sanchez and 7-foot-3 behemoth Peter Ramos to contend with.
