What's This?

“Scandal Season 6” has a choice to make right after airing its season 5 finale. With lead actress Kerry Washington pregnant with her second child, the show either has to delay its sixth season or find a replacement.

According to Just Jared, Washington’s pregnancy could wreak havoc on ABC’s #TGIT schedule next season. The news could end up delaying the sixth season to a mid-season premiere next year.

After last week’s episode revealed Mellie Grant (played by Bellamy Young) as the Republican nominee and Franki Vargas (played by Ricardo Chavira) as the Democratic nominee. The May 12th season finale has revealed the presidential nominees’ running mates in preparation for season 6. Kerry Washington’s character Olivia Pope was a potential choice for Grant’s running mate but was ultimately dropped in favor of Jake Ballard.

In an interview with Variety, Bellamy Young was asked about having Olivia Pope as Grant’s potential running mate. She describes Pope as being great in everything she does once she puts her mind into it. With Grant and Pope in charge, she would feel safe, saying that they’d be an incredible pair.

With such anticipation for the sixth season of ‘Scandal‘, where the presidential race is just about to begin, a delay is definitely bad news. ABC is set to announce its Fall schedule next week.

It should have been lessoned learned when during her first pregnancy where the show was cut down to just 18 episodes from the previous 22. The pregnancy resulted in Kerry Washington getting less screen time due to her baby bump not being part of the script.

If the show runners indeed choose to delay the season six premiere ABC might have to find a new show to fill in the huge hole in their schedule. With Washington’s pregnancy, “Scandal” might be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
