Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016) and Galaxy J1 Mini are officially launched in the Philippines and Russia. These are the latest additions to Samsung’s list of budget smartphones. Of the two devices, the Galaxy J1 Mini closely resembles the Galaxy J1 Nxt, which was recently launched in Bangladesh for $88.


In a recently published article by GSM Arena, the two handsets share almost similar specifications and features. There is, however, no mention about the price and availability of the phones. For now, you will find the names of J1 (2016) and J1 Mini listed on Samsung’s own Philippines and Russia websites.

Specs wise, the Galaxy J1 (2016) features a 4.5-inch WVGA super AMOLED display having 800×480 pixel resolution. Under the hood, the phone is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The phone’s native storage space is 8GB, which is expandable up to 128GB with a microSD card.

As for the camera specs, the J1 has a 5MP rear camera sensor marked with LED flash and autofocus features. On the other hand, the front camera is 2MP. The phone supports dual SIM features leveraged by 4G or 3G bands. It has a 2050mAH battery.

As for the Galaxy J1 Mini, the handset features a 4-inch TFT LCD display with resolutions of 800×480 pixels. The phone internals include a 1.2GHz quad-core processor along with 768MB of RAM. No further details about the processor have been revealed yet. The primary camera is 5MP and the secondary camera is 0.3MP. The in-built space on the phone is 8GB, which is expandable to 128GB via a microSD card.

Reports suggest that the handset will sport a removable 1500mAH battery, which is capable of offering up to 8 hours of 3G talk time. Connectivity options in the J1 Mini are Wi-Fi, GPS with 3G and 4G bands, Bluetooth, etc. FirstPost notes that the J1 (2016) is available in three color options- white, black and gold. On the other hand, the J1 Mini is available in gold and black colors.
