Cris “Cyborg” Justino has offered herself as a possible opponent to Ronda Rousey in her next fight at UFC 205 in the event that the former women’s bantamweight champion decides to return to active duty.
Rousey remains mum on her MMA comeback plans though it has been mentioned time and again that she would be making her return later this 2016. We are already past the middle of the year and now the calls for Rousey to make her comeback are expected to shift into higher gear.
Cyborg Pedals For Dream Match With Ronda Rousey
Before Rousey lost to Holly Holm at UFC 193, Cyborg was one person that she wanted. The feeling is mutual, though there were some details like catchweight and precedent fights that needed to be satisfied.
Justino made a big step towards that when she appeared at UFC 198 and defeated Leslie Smith. So now the possible hold up could be tied up with the catchweight.
Rousey will fight at 135, while Justino has been fighting at 145. To make the match work, Justino will likely to trim down. She was willing to do that when Rousey was still undefeated. But the landscape changed when she lost to Holm.
Justino Taunts Ronda Rousey
Despite all the technicalities, Justino has come out to try and lure Rousey back to the cage via ESPN. She singles out that Rousey doesn’t need to be the champion to fight her in the Octagon. On whether that was a dig on Rousey or not remains to be seen.
This rivalry is not about the title even if Rousey was still champion. It is all about proving who the best pound-for-pound fighter in the women’s class is. The issue here is the mental state of Rousey. That loss was a killer and she hasn’t really shown signs that she is over it.
The UFC wants Rousey to face the UFC champion upon her return. That would point to a possible match with Amanda Nunes unless Dana White creates a mix up with other names on the table. That would include Miesha Tate and Holly Holm.
All the fighters have a beef to settle. But at the end of the day, the UFC simply has to rewind a bit and tackle that dream match which totally changed after UFC 193.
