It’s Day 12 at this year’s Roland Garros, and the matches on the tennis court are getting more exciting than ever.
Serena Williams is moving toward her tenth quarter finals game at French Open after winning against Ukranian Elina Svitolina at the Court Philippe-Chatrier. In only 62 minutes, Williams managed to hit 27 winners, with the matches ending in 6-1, 6-1. Following the match, Williams remarked, “Every day, for me, is important to get up for all my matches, you know, first round to the last round.”
For the quarterfinal match, the 21-Grand Slam champion will go up against 21-year old Yulia Putintseva. The Kazakh is 13 years younger than Williams, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have as much game on the court. After all, she has had to defeat No. 28 seed Andrea Petkovic and No. 12 seed Carla Suarez Navarro to score a match with Williams. On the other hand, Williams is determined to bring her Grand Slam titles to 22 by the time the French Open ends.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic is making his way to his 28th straight Grand Slam quarterfinal following a win against Roberto Bautista Agut. The current world no. 1 has also become the first player to win more than $100 million in prize money.
At the quarter final, Djokovic will play against seventh-seeded Tomas Berdych. It shouldn’t be hard for the Serb to beat Berdych this time around. According to a report from Bleacher Report, Djokovic currently stands at 23-2 against Berdych. Moreover, the Serb has won against Berdych in 10 straight matches since 2013. This, however, will be the first time that the two will face off at the French Open.
