What's This?

“Rogue One” actor Mads Mikkelsen has confirmed that “iconic” characters from the original trilogy will make an appearance in the film. The prequel to “A New Hope” will tell the story of a mission to acquire the structural plans of the original “Death Star.”

According to The Evening Standard, many fans are grateful to Mads Mikkelsen’s occasional slip of the tongue regarding details about the upcoming Star Wars spin-off. Previously, he unintentionally revealed his role as the father of the main protagonist Jyn Erso in an interview with a UK news network.

This time, Mikkelsen has revealed that well-known characters from the original franchise will make an appearance in “‘Rogue One.” The identities of these iconic characters are currently unknown, even the actors who will play them.

Cinema Blend revealed some likely candidates that could appear in the “Star Wars” spin-off. The most obvious choice would be Darth Vader given that he was the one who captured the vessel carrying Princess Leia and the blueprints.

Many would be glad to see Vader again after only seeing a glimpse of his trademark black suit in the prequel trilogies. It is not clear if James Earl Jones would be willing to lend his voice to the character after so many years.

Another likely candidate would be Grand Moff Tarkin, who is one of the primary antagonists in ‘A New Hope’ and no doubt the Death Star’s number one fan. Although this could be hard since actor Peter Cushing passed away in 1994, Mon Mothma has been recast and the same could be done for Tarkin.

Lastly, there is everyone’s favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett. After a mere 5 lines in the original trilogy, the spin-off could give more development to this well-known character.

In any case, generations of fans are grateful to Disney and J.J. Abrams for breathing new life into the “Star Wars” franchise. There’s hope that more spin-offs will follow after “Rogue One” premieres on December 16, 2016.
