The confirmed cast members for “Rogue One” are Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Riz Ahmed. However, their names in the movie are still not announced.
Diego Luna featured in the Oscar-winning “Milk” in 2008 while Ben Mendelsohn is nominated for the Emmy for his role in “Bloodline.”
There was a lot of talk regarding the importance of a heroine in the movies in the D23 Expo. From the first look of the cast for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” it seems that Felicity Jones is going to take centerstage in the upcoming movie. However, there is no such promise made.
According to Lucas film president Kathleen Kennedy, “Rogue One takes place before the events of ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’ and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe.”
Kathleen Kennedy said in the statement, “It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know.”
Kennedy is excited about working with Gareth who according to her is an innovative director. She is quite happy with the cast he selected for the new movie.
