Queen Sugar Season 2 is happening as the Oprah Winfrey Network has renewed the series. According to reports, OWN has ordered 16 episodes for Queen Sugar Season 2. It will take the story forward from the season one finale episode.
Queen Sugar follows the life of Bordelon siblings in the fictional town of Louisiana in Saint Josephine. The estranged siblings including brother Ralph-Angel and sisters Nova Bordelon and Charley Bordelon must come together following a family tragedy. The will have to save the 800-acre family sugarcane farm.
The Queen Sugar cast includes, Rutina Wesley, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, Kofi Siriboe, Bianca Lawson, and Dondré Whitfield among others.
Queen Sugar Season 2 Cancelled: OWN gives a nod to second season
Although the news of Queen Sugar Season 2 emerged pretty early, it is the ratings that will determine whether or not it is a good move on the part of the OWN executives. However, there is no official premiere date for the next season. A new season is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2017.
According to a report by the Deadline, Monica Macer will be the executive producer and the showrunner for the second season. Ava DuVernay and Melissa Carter were the showrunners for Queen Sugar Season 1.
Good numbers keep hopes up for a Queen Sugar Season 2
The ratings and reviews for Queen Sugar have not been disappointing so far, and the series have been able to pick up a substantial number of fans during its first season. The two-night premiere of Queen Sugar which debuted in September garnered in impressive ratings, according to Deadline. The September 6 episode went on to become the second-best premiere for the 5-year old network while the next episode became the best Night 2 OWN ever had.
The Queen Sugar season finale that aired on November 30 also received an overwhelming response from fans on Twitter.
With the amount of love and praises the series received in its first season, fans can expect Queen Sugar Season 2 to live up to the expectations.
