“Prometheus 2” finally have its title, “Alien: Covenant,” as revealed by director Ridley Scott. Along with the title’s reveal was the film’s new addition of alien monsters, the announcement of Michael Fassbender’s confirmation to star in the movie, and the film’s plot synopsis.
After several reports that indicate that Ridley Scott was due to create “Prometheus 2,” he finally confirmed that his upcoming film this coming January through February 2016 will be “Alien: Covenant.”
Previous reports noted that Scott has referred to “Alien: Paradise Lost” in several occasions. However, during an interview at the AFI Film Festival, Scott stated, “I was going to be doing what will be called ‘Alien: Covenant’, which starts shooting next February, and we were struggling then with the screenplay there and then there was a phone call, somebody saying ‘Listen, we’ve got this thing which is completely written called Martian, and I said, huh. And I sped read it in an hour and by mid-afternoon, I talked to Fox and said, ‘I need to talk to ‘Drew [Goddard]…’”
Based on his statement, it was eminent that he was prioritizing “The Martian” before he was to create the second installment of the “Prometheus” franchise. However, reports indicate that he was, indeed, going to create “Prometheus 2” and that the film was to be called “Alien: Covenant,” reported Den of Geek.
In other news, Screen Rant reported that the film’s script was re-written by Oscar-nominee John Logan, writer for films such as “Gladiator” and “Spectre,” which also allegedly indicated that new characters in the second installment would surface.
With reference to the production company’s statement on “Alien: Covenant” synopsis, the story would tell the journey of a crew of a colony ship called “Covenant” to an uncharted paradise. Given the “uncharted paradise” hint, the report indicate that the lead character, David, whose role will be reprised by Fassbender, will face new monsters during their Prometheus expedition.
The said monsters were to appear with an elongated forehead, a unique picture from that of the first installment.
Catch “Prometheus 2,” or now referred to as “Alien: Covenant” on screens this coming October 2017.
