Production of the Power Rangers movie is finally getting prepped up as Lionsgate has officially added another celebrity into the cast – director and actress Elizabeth Banks. “The Hunger Games” actress has been declared the primary villain of the story – Rita Repulsa.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Elizabeth Banks has been declared a cast member for the upcoming Power Rangers film adaptation. She is said to portray Rita Repulsa, the alien witch who has a villainous plan for the whole planet.
The official announcement was posted on Power Rangers’ official Instagram captioned, “Big news! @ElizabethBanks joins the cast of @PowerRangersMovie as the villainous #RitaRepulsa. Let the countdown to 2017 begin!”
In fact, Banks is said to be the only established celebrity to partake a role in the reboot as the other teenagers who will portray the five heroes of planet Earth are said to be Hollywood unknowns.
Being cast for the role, several speculations arose as to whether Banks fit the character; the franchise has initially looked toward non-white personalities to play Rita Repulsa, reports The Mary Sue. Given that, Banks will be the first actress who will get to wear the Rita Repulsa costume, following actresses like Machiko Soga.
