Photos: Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge Gone Wrong
Teens who responded to the viral #kyliejennerchallenge have been posting photos of themselves as they suffer devastating results. The challenge involved placing bottles over the mouth and sucking in air to create a vacuum. Naturally, it will cause the lips to swell, but results do not even come close to how Kylie’s lips look like.
Teens who tried the challenge are now wishing that they didn’t.
Experts have testified as to how the lip challenge can be very harmful.
“The new trend in trying to DIY lip plumping is quite concerning. Not only can significant pain, swelling, and bruising result from these suction techniques, but there is potential risk for scarring and permanent disfigurement with repeated attempts,” Dr. Dendy Engelman, a board-certified dermatologic surgeon, told Seventeen.com.
Dr. Francesca Fusco of Wexler Dermatology in Kips Bay told CBS local that the teens are being lured to try the challenge because plump lips are considered sexy nowadays. He, however, warned that the challenge is very risky.
“The idea is they’re sucking and creating a vacuum, and that vacuum would result in swelling because it’s a trauma to the lips, breaking of blood vessels, lacerations, cutting of the skin that requires stitches in some cases. And that can leave marks that include pigmentation; scarring,” Fusco told CBS Local.
Kylie Jenner responds to the challenge
In a series of tweets, Kylie explained herself.
“I’m not here to try & encourage people/young girls to look like me or to think this is the way they should look,” she posted.
“I want to encourage people/young girls like me to be YOURSELF & not be afraid to experiment w your look.”
