Pebble Smartwatch Launches its Own App Store
The Pebble smartwatch is expected to get even more functional. That is after it launches its own app store today. The online shop will feature more apps as well as watch faces (or themes) that will be optimized especially for the high-tech timepiece.
In a statement posted on the brand’s Twitter account, a representative of Pebble smartwatch said the app store will unlock more possibilities for the product. Users will be made able to browse as well as download special apps right from their own smartphones.
Thus, the app store is now added to the smartwatch’s app through an update. There is even a version to be launched in iOS. A version of the app would be released and posted for downloading on Android soon.
This new app store will make it easier and a lot more convenient for users of the smartwatch to find and download more apps for the device. It should be noted that today, Pebble owners need to
use third-party resources, such as MyPebleFaces, to find watch faces or apps for the smartwatch. The app store will facilitate a centralized venue where Pebble users can discover, install, and manage appropriate and useful apps.
The launch of the special Pebble app store was announced in December. At that time, the smartwatch maker was not able to release any definite timeline for the store’s roll out. But it described the proposed app store as ‘one-stop shop’ specifically for searching, installing, and browsing Pebble watch faces and other apps.
The new Pebble app store will make it easier and faster to browse apps. It will feature popular categories like Remotes, Games, Daily, Notifications, Fitness, Watchfaces, and Tools & Utilities. Such apps will enable users to do more things like monitor their workout routines, manage music, and control thermostat from the wrist. Pebble even said it will eventually curate its own app store. This is to present the new apps and best apps in their respective categories.
Pebble app store comes following the release of the company’s software development kit in November. The kit was for creation of Pebble apps especially for iOS and/or Android.
Pebble drew attention during the recent Consumer Electronics Show held at Las Vegas. That was because it unveiled its next-generation version known as Pebble Steel, which is the refreshed model of the smartwatch. Pebble Steel is scheduled to start shipping by the end of this month.
