Patriots Vs Texans: Rob Gronkowski was a game-time decision for Sunday night’s contest between New England Patriots and Houston Texans. As fate would have it, the tight end made an instant impact as the Patriots (11-2) clinched their seventh consecutive playoff berth and moved back into the AFC’s top spot with a 27-6 rout of the Houston Texans (6-7)
Tom Brady, who threw 226 yards and two touchdowns, was delighted to have his tight end back. “He’s a huge influence on what we do offensively,” said the Patriots quarterback.
“He (Gronkowski) really toughed it out so I’m proud of him. He had a big touchdown catch. He’s obviously a big part of what we do so it was great to have him out there. … Football is always trust and anticipation and there’s nobody that I trust more than Gronk,” added Brady, who threw touchdown passes to Keshawn Martin and Gronkowski in the first half to help New England build an assertive 17-6 lead.
Gronkowski, who finished with four receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown in his return from knee injury, had a highlight moment with 14 seconds left in the first half when he caught a smooth TD pass from Brady. “It’s always good to make a play, get a touchdown. The icing on the cake is that win,” an elated Gronkowski said after the victory.
The 11-2 Patriots moved ahead of Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC East. Meanwhile, the 6-7 Texans are battling to keep the top spot in the AFC South.
