Paramount will replace the release schedule of the next installment of the Terminator reboot franchise with the Baywatch movie.

While the Arnold Schwarzenegger starrer Terminator 2 was scheduled to open in theaters on May 19, 2017, Paramount announced that it will be replaced with the Baywatch movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Terminator: Genisys being a disappointment – earning merely $89 million in the United States and $440 million worldwide, and scoring 25 percent on Rotten Tomatoes – is the principal reason why the Paramount decided to go with the Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron and Kelly Rohrbach starrer.

Following an unimpressive collection at the box office, co-financer of Genisys, Skydance, said it was “readjusting” the plans for a trilogy.

Seth Gordon will be directing Baywatch. The director is known for his previous releases, Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief.
