David Beckham thinks that nobody has the right to tell a parent what is best for her or his children. And anybody who feels like criticizing a parent should always think twice before going about it, the athlete said. Beckham’s reaction comes in the wake of an article published by Daily Mail that criticized him for still allowing Harper to use a pacifier at the age of four.

David Beckham slammed for Harper’s dummy

An article published by Daily Mail on Aug 9 quoted childhood rearing experts to call out Beckham for still allowing Harper to go out and about in public with a dummy in her mouth. The article said that experts were one in saying that at four years old, a child is way past the age of soothing herself with a pacifier.

Quoting parenting expert Clare Byam-Cook, the article said that the “Beckhams were putting Harper’s wellbeing at risk.”

“If she has a dummy in their mouth at this age, at four, it really can damage her teeth and it is very likely to hinder speech development… Many dentists will agree that dummy use at this age really is not good,” Cook told the Daily Mail.

“David and Victoria seem wonderful parents and I’m sure they give Harper lots of attention but, like it or not, they are role models and lots of people will see this and think that having a dummy at this age is normal when it is not,” she said.

Cook added that the Beckham couple may be experiencing “last child syndrome.”

“Because she is the youngest David and Victoria could be clinging on to her being a baby,” Cook explained.

David Beckham slammed Daily Mail for criticizing his parenting style

On Aug. 10, Beckham posted a screenshot of the Daily Mail’s article with a rage-filled caption.

“Why do people feel they have the right to criticize a parent about their own children without having any facts ??” Beckham wrote.

“Everybody who has children knows that when they aren’t feeling well or have a fever you do what comforts them best and most of the time it’s a pacifier so those who criticize think twice about what you say about other people’s children because actually you have no right to criticize me as a parent …”
