Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed the extension of “Overwatch” beta in its recent announcement on Us.Battle.Net. The first-person shooter will be available for the next 24 hours, according to the forums. The reason behind the extension is not for the developers to show gratitude to faithful gamers, but to gain more data to analyze the game’s response and fix performance issues before its initial release.
“We hope everyone has been enjoying the Overwatch Open Beta,” according to Lylirra, community manager. “We certainly have! We’ve loved being able to play alongside you on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Over the last week, we’ve also had the opportunity to listen to your thoughts and opinions on the game; make improvements based on your reports in these very forums; and collect invaluable data just from you playing normally.”
Overwatch has already received positive response in all platforms. YouTubers are now going live playing Overwatch multiplayer. The success of Overwatch beta was also stated by Activision COO Thomas Tippl in their earning calls, claiming the game has the biggest launch since Diablo 3.
Tippl also said to Gamasutra, “We expect Overwatch to be Blizzard’s biggest launch since Diablo in 2012. We also believe Overwatch will resonate well in eSports, which provides yet another vector for audience expansion, In fact, eSports is not only a driver of audience expansion, but also importantly drives growth in terms of time spent with our franchises.”
The beta version will close at 10 a.m PDT in all regions. Furthermore, Overwatch will be available for purchase on May 24 in PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Click here to read the official report of extension.
