Despite the “big sacrifice” that Klaus Michaelson carries out in the season 3 finale of The Originals, which was in many ways against his characteristic traits, he might not be this generous and forgiving in the next season.
‘The Originals’ Season 3 Recap
‘The Originals’ Season 3 was filled with a number twists and turns that tested the sibling bonds of the Michaelson family. But as Klaus has always maintained that “family comes first,” he becomes the bigger person by letting Marcel stab him with Papa Tunde’s blade, which means that he will have to suffer alone in excruciating pain, cut off from his family.
It also seemed like Klaus was finally ready to embrace humanity, something that he had always been running from, believing that he had lost his soul the moment he transformed into a vampire. Cami had a huge role in bringing out the human side of Klaus in this season, what with the regular therapy sessions and the romantic connection that she shared with him.
‘The Originals’ Season 4
However, there is a good chance that in season 4, the viewers might not see the same Klaus that they saw in season 3. In an exclusive interview to Entertainment weekly, the creator of The Originals, Michael Narducci, mentions:
“I think one thing to keep in mind is, we’re not at the end of our series, so as you said, there’s going to be steps forward and then there’s going to be steps backward.”
But what might necessarily cause the switch to flip back to the dark side?
“But now he’s going to be suffering unendurable agony for who knows how long, and when we see him again, will that choice to be selfless, which resulted in so much pain and agony and solitude — the thing that he fears most — will that actually make him even more of a monster?”
The creator also mentioned that since Cami died in season 3, there will also be no one to pull him back if Klaus decides to go on a killing spree again. So, will Klaus be able to retain his humanity despite all the painful experiences that he has had to endure?
‘The Originals’ Season 4 Release Date
Julie Plec, one of the creators of The Originals, revealed via her exclusive blog on Entertainment Weekly that The Originals season 4 will be returning in the midseason of 2017:
“As of yesterday, the news broke that The Originals will be returning next year in midseason. Mid-season is one of those annoyingly aspecific designations that could mean any time between January and April.”
