OnePlus One owners will not be able to update their devices to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, thanks to the Smartisan OS custom ROM. On top of this, Google has confirmed the release and name of the Android 7.0 N series that promises to bring excellent features to the current OS system.
OnePlus One Android Custom ROM
The custom ROM came from popular Chinese custom ROM developers. It is based on the current version of the Android Marshmallow OS, offering updates, security patches, improved performance, double tap to wake features, battery life improvements, and a whole range of value-added features.
According to International Business Times, the new Smartisan OS Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow custom ROM is only compatible with OnePlus One aka Bacon models. If the firmware is installed on other devices, the unit may be at risk of getting bricked. To check for the right model, simply go to Settings >> About phone >> Model Number. It is essential that the device is rooted.
Users should be prepared to lose their warranty if they choose to install a custom ROM. All users must know how to flash their devices properly before they try to install the said ROM. Important info should also be backed up in case the installation process encounters a problem. People are advised to follow all custom ROM installation instructions carefully.
Disclaimer: Providers of the update cannot be held responsible for what happens to the device following installation. Users can update at their own risk.
On other news, Google has confirmed that the next Android OS update will be named Nougat. According to CNET, some of the things people should expect from the software include Google Assistant, Instant Apps, Multiwindow, Reply in a notification, and Bundles of notifications among others. There will also be Doze on the Go and Night Mode.
