Is Nina Dobrev joining the cast of “The Originals” for revenge? The actress is said to be in a mood to spite her ex Ian Somerhalder by joining another CW show to help with its ratings, leaving “The Vampire Diaries” in the dust.
The love triangle among Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed has allegedly caused trouble for “The Vampire Diaries,” Celebrity Dirty Laundry reported. While she said otherwise, many speculated Dobrev walked out of the show after season six because she cannot digest her ex being happy with wife Nikki.
Allegedly, she left the show to make it suffer the risk of cancellation because her leaving will affect viewership. Ratings indeed dipped with her gone. There were even reports that Somerhalder is blaming Dobrev for the show’s dismal fate.
On the other hand, Dobrev’s possible decision to join “The Originals” may not really be personal. After all, her character Elena is suited for “The Originals” storyline. Fans know Elena was the first doppelganger back in “The Vampire Diaries” and her blood converted the so-called Originals into vampires. This makes her a natural choice for the show.
Moreover, Dobrev herself once said that she has already moved on from Somerhalder and is very happy about Somerhalder and Reed’s relationship. “They look happy and I am happy and so I don’t see why there should be a problem with that. The drama is in the media, it’s not with us. But of course, we’re on a teen drama show, everyone’s going to look for drama,” she said to E Online.
In addition, even with its significantly lower ratings, “The Vampire Diaries” is going strong because the network announced there will be a season 8. According to Deadline, the CW already confirmed the development of “The Vampire Diaries” season 8 and “The Originals” season 4.
