Nike’s ‘Back to the Future Part II’ Shoes’ Release Date Is Still Unclear
Nike made an announcement in January that “Back to the Future Part II” self-lacing shoes would be released by the end of 2015. The Nike Air Mag is one of the most anticipated shoes by far since it is believed to come with a unique power-lacing option.
The movie “Back to the Future Part II” which was released back in 1989 showcased dozens of new technologies most of which haven’t been created in reality. The self-lacing shoes are one among the technologies that are waiting to be created which include pizza rehydrators, hoverboard and weather controls, according to Gizmodo.
Tinker Hatfield, the Nike designer and innovator confirmed early this year that the power lacing shoes would be out by the end of 2015. Hatfield also noted that Nike Air Mag for 2015 would come with self-tying features like the ones in the movie.
Nice Kicks publisher told the Mashable that “The anticipation for this release is something that few understand.” Hatfield added that “I don’t even know if everyone at Nike realizes just how much demand there is for this shoe.”
In the movie “Back to the Future Part II,” Marty McFly would travel to 2015 wearing the Air Mag. The shoes created just for the movie back then were recreated by Nike in 2011 and were released as a limited edition of 1,500 shoes with LED light on the soles.
The money raised from the shoes was funded for Michael J. Fox’s foundation. Meanwhile, Nike Air Mag for 2015 is also expected to be a limited edition, but there are no official words yet on the number of shoes to be released.
