Josh Gordon, the Cleveland Browns wide receiver, could be traded to the Philadelphia Eagles before the start of the new season, per league sources.
On Monday, the NFL announced that Gordon had been reinstated on a conditional basis. While the 25-year-old has been permitted to join his teammates for the ongoing training camp, he would need to serve his four-game suspension before returning to the field in Week 5 of the season.
According to NFL.com, Gordon met with commissioner Roger Goodell last week after failing a drug test in March. The original plan was to reinstate Gordon in August. “As we discussed at our (July 19) meeting, as Commissioner, I want nothing more than to see you turn your circumstances around and succeed,” Goodell said in a letter to Gordon released by the league on Monday.
Despite Gordon’s reinstatement, the passer-catcher is on “thin ice” with the Browns, according to Bleacher Report. This could lead to the Eagles swooping in and trading for Gordon, per reports.

Josh Gordon, Eagles are a good match
According to ESPN’s John Clayton, the Eagles would be the perfect destination for Gordon.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if we look down the landscape that a receiver pops up. Let’s say for example that the Cleveland Browns want to trade Josh Gordon. What teams might be interested? Philly might be one of those teams that would consider it. You’d be getting a great talent cheap and he would fit the outside spot,” Clayton told 97.5 The Fanatic on Tuesday.
Tom Ignudo of Inside The Iggles opines that Eagles could desperately use a player like Gordon since Pro Football Focus has ranked the team’s wide receivers as the 29th best in the league. The writer feels that Sam Bradford, the Eagles’ star quarterback, could benefit from Gordon’s presence.
“Bradford, who has struggled to get the ball down the field at times, would get a proven threat in Gordon, who averages 17. 1 yards per catch, and on top of that, his 161 receptions, 2,754-yards and 14 touchdowns in 35 games are exactly what the Eagles need on the outside this season,” wrote Ignudo.
