The San Francisco 49ers are befuddled on what to do at quarterback with Blain Gabbert faltering and Colin Kaepernick still not making any noise. Coach Chip Kelly seems to be running out of ideas with things pointing to a quarterback overhaul soon.
Try as they might, Kelly has not gotten any mileage from Blaine Gabbert. He has been atrocious so far, missing open receivers despite formidable efforts on the defensive end. Given that Gabbert’s game is slowly declining, Kelly is pressed to decide on whether it is time to try (again) Colin Kaepernick.
Time To Move On From Blaine Gabbert
The thing here is that Kaepernick is as disgruntled as they come. Despite numerous trade rumors in the offseason (to this day), many are wondering what plans the 49ers have for the fallen quarterback.

Kaepernick lost the starting role to Gabbert last year, though the 49ers woes were seen to be because of something more, ProFootballTalk reported. At that time, the 28-year-old quarterback was deemed as someone needing a break.
It has been more than a year since that celebrated switch and try as they might, a change could be good. Kaepernick could use this to prove that he still has it but the scenario changes if he falters yet again.
The obvious recourse here is for the 49ers to consider trades for both Gabbert and Kaepernick with other teams, Fansided reported. Most NFL teams right now are having their quarterback woes so quality may take a bit of a dip for Kelly and San Francisco.
The question now is who could they possibly get to save their sagging campaign? Johnny Manziel is an option, regardless of his off-field issues. With Tom Brady returning to the New England Patriots, the 49ers could instigate a trade for Jacoby Brissett too.
The 49ers do have options but it depends on who they actually target to somehow save their season.
