He wanted to join the Tennessee Titans. But Jim Schwartz was hired by the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday as defensive coordinator.
Schwartz was the Titans’ defensive coordinator from 2001-2008 after a stint as defensive assistant. With the Titans picking up Mike Mularkey as the head coach, Dick LeBeau is set to return as the defensive coordinator.
Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, in his introductory speech, said he hired Schwartz as a coordinator. Schwartz served as officiator in the NFL in 2015.
“I’m excited to have him, his track record, his defenses that have led the National Football League,” Pederson pointed out. “I’ve had a chance to coach against him, and I’m glad he’s on our team now. And so I’m honored to have him to be a part of my staff.”
Schwartz last featured as defensive coordinator with Buffalos in 2014 under Doug Marrone.
Jim Schwartz had a 4-year stint as Detroit Lions’ head coach from 2009 to 2013. He went 29-51 in those years. The Lions once made the playoffs under him.
