Tuesday’s penultimate episode of “NCIS” season 13 left everyone in shock. With the David farmhouse burning down in Israel, would Ziva still be alive? More importantly, will Tony and Ziva see each other again?
Tuesday’s episode entitled “Dead Letter” somewhat delved into Special Agent Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo’s relationship with former NCIS agent and Mossad assassin Ziva David. It turns out that Jacob Scott was looking for her not because she was his next target, but because she holds the key to proving his innocence.
Turns out, too, that former MI6 agent Scott was not responsible for the recent string of killings, including Homeland director Tom Morrow. Rather, he was being framed by none other than CIA spy Trent Kort. Kort was also apparently fired by the CIA, but not before he got a fancy new replacement for his eye patch.
Following the airing of “Dead Letter,” Michael Weatherly, who portrays Agent DiNozzo, had a little chat with the media about his feelings on the recently aired episode and what’s to come during his final episode with the show.
On the sight of Ziva’s house burning, Weatherly remarked, “It is a very provocative image isn’t it?”
The actor admitted that when the scene was shot, he hadn’t read the script yet, so he himself was in complete shock. He told TV Line, “That was Michael Weatherly trying to figure out, ‘Wait. Wait. That’s where Cote [de Pablo] and I shot that scene. So I was as shocked as anyone.”
The scene Weatherly was referring to was the one that took place in the very same farmhouse two seasons ago when de Pablo’s Ziva decided to exit the show. Here, Tony convinced Ziva to start fresh and later tried to convince her to return to D.C. with him, even if she no longer wanted to be an agent. Ziva decided to stay behind in Israel, and that was the last she was seen or even heard from. Since her life seems to be in jeopardy now, it seems the odds that Tony and Ziva will have a happy ending are fading.
When pressed about Ziva’s role in his final episode, Weatherly cryptically told The Hollywood Reporter, “I think that the audience will feel very strongly that she’s in the episode in a way that might be a little Shakespearian. I think its going to be a very exciting time for the fans of that relationship.”
Asked if Ziva is actually dead, Weatherly said with a laugh, “Shakespeare and Gary Glasberg love killing people.”
Cote had already said early on that she will not be appearing in Weatherly’s final episode. As for Ziva’s fate, fans will just have to tune in to find out.
NCIS will air Weatherly’s final episode a.k.a. Tony’s goodbye on Tuesday at 8 p.m. on CBS.
