The Philadelphia 76ers are still without a quality point guard and could acquire Phoenix Suns’ Eric Bledsoe before the start of the new season, per a league source.
Bledsoe has been mentioned in trade talks since the eve of the NBA Draft last month. According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News, the Suns have been trying to find a good offer for Bledsoe, who has been plagued with injuries for the better part of his career.
“Another young veteran who will be firmly on the trading block is Eric Bledsoe of the Suns, as Phoenix seeks to rebalance its guard-heavy roster and hopes to add frontcourt help. Of course, that value took a serious hit last winter when Bledsoe had the third knee surgery of his career,” SN reported last month.
Needless to say, Bledsoe’s trade value has considerably dipped due to his recurring injuries. “It’s definitely a case of selling low if they trade him now. Those knees are serious red flags and you figure it is only a matter of time before both of them will be removed,” an anonymous general manager told Sporting News.
Eric Bledsoe: Who can the Sixers offer?
Philadelphia have been actively trying to shop Jahlil Okafor and/or Nerlens Noel. A direct swap between Okafor and Bledsoe could work wonders for both teams.
Suns have the likes of Tyson Chandler and Alex Len in their ranks but the former is in the last phase of his career and the latter has yet to blossom into a starting caliber center.
On draft night, the Suns added two promising young front court pieces in Marquese Chriss and Dragan Bender. However, both those players are viewed as projects and could take a few years before finding their groove in the NBA. Someone like Noel could give the Sixers an immediate option at the center position.
