The New York Knicks will pounce on Russell Westbrook once he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2017. Westbrook may consider Knicks as well. The Knicks are on the hunt for a quality long-term point guard.
The opportunity to play in New York and join Kristaps Porzingis could lure the OKC star, according to Real GM. Westbrook’s teammate at Oklahoma City Thunder, Kevin Durant, will become a free agent at the end of this season. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, Westbrook is a probable and perhaps the best option for the Knicks once his contract expires with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“The Knicks have a real chance to sell Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook in 2017—New York and (forward Kristaps) Porzingis have his attention, yes—and (team president Phil) Jackson ought to start constructing an elite coaching staff to begin that process with Westbrook and with free agents beyond him,” wrote Wojnarowski.
The Knicks have a formidable pair comprising of Carmelo Anthony and Porzingis, but Westbrook’s inclusion would surely make them an elite side. Their awful run in the past ten games led to firing of coach Derek Fisher.
