ESPN’s Zach Lowe reported Wednesday that Raptors are willing to package Terrence Ross and other assets to land Noel, who has been on the trading block for several weeks.
“Toronto has already approached Philly about a deal sending out a rotation player — perhaps Terrence Ross, and other goodies — in exchange for Nerlens Noel, who could then assume Bismack Biyombo’s backup center role, according to league sources. The talks haven’t gained much traction yet.
Nerlens Noel + Valanciunas front court?
Raptors have a surplous of bigs. Though Jonas Valanciunas remains the best player to start at center, Toronto added Jakob Poeltl and Pascal Siakam on draft night. By adding Noel, Toronto can risk losing free agent Biyombo, who is expected to field several offers over the next week or so.
According to SB Nation’s Raptors HQ, Noel would be the perfect replacement for Biyombo. “Noel has clear value as defensive player, and could be the guy to replace Biyombo for the Raps. Theoretically, Noel could grow into a great backup centre option, particularly when you consider him paired with Patrick Patterson. That part makes this proposal intriguing.”
Sixers GM Bryan Colangelo has already stated that the team is actively trying to move Noel or Jahlil Okafor. “We would like to (trade Noel or Okafor), and I’ve been pretty consistent about that. If it becomes available we’ll certainly do that. We’ve kind of identified about 6 or 7 players that we would like to see [in Philadelphia],” Colangelo told CSN New England on the eve of the NBA Draft.
NBA free agency begins on Friday. The Raptors aren’t expected to pursue too many marquee free agency since they are strapped for cap room. However, they could upgrade their roster with several trades. Will Nerlens Noel head up north?
