NBA Trade Rumors: Monroe, Davis To Form Pelicans Front Court?
The New Orleans Pelicans are making a last-minute push to acquire Greg Monroe from the Milwaukee Bucks, according to latest NBA Trade Rumors.Advertisement
With the Bucks reportedly shopping Monroe and Michael Carter-Williams, the Pelicans have emerged as a major suitor to acquire the Milwaukee big man. According to ESPN’s Zach Lowe and The Time-Picayune, talks between Pelicans and Bucks are at an “exploratory” stage but could materialize into something substantial ahead of Thursday’s deadline.
Davis-Monroe front court…
The Pelicans are reportedly unhappy with center Omer Asik, who was signed to a five-year $53 million deal last July. According to The Journal Times, the Pelicans recently had more than one scout each watching the Bucks, trying to figure if Monroe and Anthony Davis can form a potent front court.
Needless to say, the Bucks have a high asking price for Monroe. They expect nothing less than a package of Asik, a future first-round draft pick and Jrue Holiday. The Bucks would settle for Holiday as their new point guard, especially since coach Jason Kidd is ready to ship Carter-Williams.
According to Yahoo’s Marc J Spears, the Bucks have told Carter-Williams that they won’t be shipping him by Thursday’s trade deadline. However, that is exactly what they told Brandon Knigh prior to the last trade deadline, and we all know how that turned out! It must be noted that the Hawks have explored a deal with the Pelicans that involves Jeff Teague and Carter-Williams.
Three-team deal likely…
In all likelihood, there could be a three-team deal between Pelicans, Hawks and Bucks which sees Monroe land in New Orleans, Asik and Teague head to Milwaukee, and Michael Carter-Williams along with Pelicans’ first-round pick head to Atlanta. That doesn’t sound like a bad deal.
